“It was writings on the walls that sparked the Syrian revolution; and these walls have become a part of its history,” says one of the activists behind Our Revolution in Colors: a campaign initiated to paint the walls of Atareb, a town north of Aleppo.
Launched by the “Revolution Supporters Assembly”, the campaign aims to restore the spirit of the peaceful uprising in Syria and revive its values and goals.
The participating activists painted the walls of Atareb and decorated them with quotes on freedom and hope. “We will stay here until the pain goes away”, “We will resist until death escapes us and freedom embraces us”, are just two of several slogans spread across the city.
Moreover, the ongoing campaign has reiterate the community's willingness to reactivate civil work, which had been ubiquitous before the militarization of the uprising. “The Syrian street craves any civil initiative that restores what war has taken away.”
