Syria on the cover of Time Magazine

10 May 2013

The Time Magazine has dedicated its cover to Syria three times since 1983. The first one featured former ruler Hafez al-Assad. The second one was on March 19, 2012 addressing the story of a Western journalist who was nearly killed in Syria and including the number of people killed by the Assad regime.  The last issue on Syria was on May 27, 2013. The cover clearly states: “Syria’s Descent into Madness” to highlight how the Syrian “civil war”, as the magazine calls it, has reached its darkest point with each side showing the other videos portraying atrocities that play a big role in the action and reaction to how things are going.

In response to that, designer Moustafa Jacoub has designed his own Time Magazine cover highlighting pictures of children killed in one the bloodiest massacres by Assad troops in Banias, Western Syria. This cover responds to the real Time Magazine cover by showcasing the assasination of children by the regime while the world remains silent.
