Hibr is one of the few Syrian newspapers curated, produced and printed inside Syria. The journal, established in June 2013, prides itself on surviving thus far despite all the turmoil and pressures.
The weekly is distributed mainly in the Aleppo and Idlib governorates. It eschews coverage of breaking news in favour of more space for analytical and opinion pieces, as well as a focus on investigative journalism and especially on topics of concern to the general public. Moreover, effort is never spared in trying to improve the output. On the anniversary of the weekly's 50th issue, a special survey was conducted to gather feedback and allow for strategic planing for the future. The weekly gets its funding from the Bunyan civil society organisation.
