Despite the blockade, their wounds and pain, despite the fact that they are caught between two evils, Assad and ISIS, and despite the nearness of death, the residents of Douma find a way to interact with what is happening in the world. Recently, this manifested in their support of Paris following the terror attacks there.
Perhaps because they live this terror daily, they are most sympathetic to the pain and suffering of the victims and families of the Paris attacks. They did not hesitate to come out in solidarity with the victims of Paris. Activists, community workers, relief and medical workers, all came out and lit candles in tribute to the lives lost. They raised banners of the Eiffel Tower with “Douma est en deul” (Douma is in Morning) written on them.
