Comic4Syria is a group of Syrian illustrators, graphic designers and animators, working to document Syria's turmoil and the everyday stories of the revolution through comic. Started in June 2012, the group presents itself as "devoted to displaying the creativity of the Syrian people and support those eager for freedom and dignity everywhere in the world."

“All of us love comics, and that’s where the idea came from” one of the activists said to Syria Untold. “We started by posting some of our friends’ comics on a Facebook page we created, and that motivated many other Syrian authors and illustrators to send us their creations, which we published on our page”.

The group´s comics have dealt with various issues, from daily life under bombing to aspects regarding sectarianism, nonviolence and armed resistance. Some of these stories are based on true facts and other are inspired by events on the ground.

During 2012 alone, the team published more than a hundred comic stories, in addition to contributing to several magazines, such as Kite and Zaytun wa Zaytuna. They have also attracted international attention through reports like The Guardian's, which the group considers an important recognition of their work. "Although to be honest the comments and reactions by our fans are what motivate us the most, we were very pleased to know that our work has an echo, and to see heated discussions about our controversial comics, especially those concerned with the revolution’s mistakes” one of the illustrators admitted.

Comic4Syria is still working on engaging more authors and illustrators in order to “continue to spread awareness and to remind people of the revolution’s principles and goals of freedom, dignity and justice”.
